Rainbow Torta and Cumpleaños

The first major craving I had when I was pregnant with Sofía was for cake---A yummy layer cake with creamy sweet frosting.  Those cravings were C-R-A-Z-Y!  Since then, I’ve been a big fan of good torta!  On Saturday, we attended Hannah’s Fourth Birthday Rainbow Party.  Look what they served!!!

A Rainbow Cake!  D-E-L-I-C-I-O-S-O!  You can find the recipe here if you are inspired to make your own!

¡Feliz Cumpleaños Victoria!

Victoria turned three years old and she had a super Max & Ruby bunny fiesta to celebrate!
Her mamá put a lot of thought into planning a special party that I’m sure Victoria will remember for a long time!  Like my amigas from the Fiesta Sponsored by L and 2, Victoria’s mamá planned activities to entertain every guest no matter what her age.

There was a bunny petting area hosted by Fairfax 4 H Club.  The kids ate it up like, well….conejos y zanahorias!

Lots of little bunny detalles could be found everywhere…..table centerpieces, the snack stand, the staircase and sweet little bunny rings in the cupcake cones!

Every year, Victoria’s mamá takes special care in creating a personalized, educational and practical party favor for everyone!  They are always very kid-friendly and appropriate unlike some of the pre-fabed favors that are available.  Just check out Sofía’s pack:  a libro, whole grain snacks and a little zanahoria to hang on the Christmas Tree!

And of course…..Victoria received a real bunny for her cumple!

Check out the really chévere things they did for the cake!
¡Felicidades!  Really…..the Divas need to start a business!

іFeliz Cumpleaños Nacho y Fulanito!

Nacho is celebrating his first cumpleaños without his twin FuFu.  We remembered FuFu today and tried to put out an honorary pastelito for him, but someone ate it!  іJa ja jee jee!

And joining the celebration this year are our new gatitos!!  We will be making a formal introduction later when we finalize their names….but for now; they joined Nacho in celebrating his sesto cumpleaños!

іFelicidades Nachito!

іCien Años!

Have you ever met anyone 100 años? Well we were privileged to meet Anna Paitz at my mamá’s 70th Cumpleaños.  Really it was a re-encounter because our familia has known her for AÑOS!  Anna was my abuela’s elementary school friend in “the old country” before the war, before any of us were born, and before they immigrated to la USA.  So although Sofía never will meet her maternal bisabuela, also her namesake, it at least pleased me that she was able to meet la bisabuela’s  lifelong amiga.

іFeliz Cumpleaños Mamá!

іJust look at mi Mamá!   Can you believe that she turned 70 years young today?

We organized a Surprise fiesta for her!  It was fantástico!
Sofía greeted her at the door and yelled, “іSorpresa!”

Not only the Cumpleañera was excited about eating torta!

іWow! 70 never looked so espectacular!

¡Feliz Cumpleaños Papi!

Sofía loves a fiesta and celebrating her Papi’s cumpleaños was no diferente!  We ate lots of yummy comida and baked deli tortas (Yes, I said tortas!).

But what she loved most was giving Papi his regalos!

Even Nacho (el gato) joined in the fun!

We created a piece of arte for Papi to hang on his bare office walls.  Sofía and I had soo much fun making it and everyone at the Papi’s oficina RAVES about it!

Fiesta de Cumpleaños

I LOVE cumpleaños. I loved celebrating my daughter’s first cumpleaños more than I ever loved celebrating my own!
Before we celebrated Sofía’s first cumpleaños, I really had no experience attending baby parties. We decorated to our liking and served pasabocas or hors d'oeuvres and I made a huge red velvet cake. We hired a babysitter to hang out with the kids as they played downstairs and we set up some games. We gave out party favors to both children and adults. We tried to give something nice and homemade without going overboard or breaking the bank. My husband and I made pizzelles and included a small can of Sofía wine for the adult bag.
For the children we gave either play dough and a bag of goldfish or to the under 2 year olds, a pink rubber duckie and a bag of goldfish to eat. Since Sofía was born on groundhog’s day, we also gave all the children a groundhog cupcake. (Those were fun to research and make and will be a yearly event!).

Sofía has now attended two of her friends’ first cumpleaños parties. They were fantastic in terms of decorations and details put into the event. One really went ALL-OUT making sure everything coordinated with the cupcake theme. Things that I can think of that I noticed at the house were: a handmade painted wooden cumpleaños cupcake hanging on the front door, cumpleaños cupcake tablecloths, cumpleaños cupcake wall hangings, and a cupcake tree. They gave out favors to adults and children alike, keeping with the cupcake theme. They went ALL-OUT! In the adult bag, there was a cumpleaños cupcake magnet with Rylan’s picture in it, a hershey’s bar wrapped with cumpleaños cupcake them and Rylan’s picture, cupcake stationary, cupcake chocolates and a few other things I can’t remember. The children’s favors were equally as extravagant. All was wrapped in a sand bucket with each child’s name printed on it. Sofía received a pair of socks, a package of hair barrettes, 2 packages of cookies, a sippy cup and again a few other items that I can’t remember. I THOUGHT I took a picture of these things to post, but evidently I did not. Bummer. Yesterday, at another party, the favors were also intricate. Everything was housed in a basket-like container with about 6 different rubber duckies or penguins, a chocolate duck, a little stuffed hippo, and a beach ball. I did take a picture of this.

I wonder what other people give in their party favor bags? Now I am thinking about what I can do for next year. I have about eight months, so there is time. But I am thinking about what I can hand-make for the kids. I like to be practical AND economical (we only have one income, remember!) My friend Amy sews a bunch of fun stuff, so I’m thinking what I can sew while I have the time and can get deals on fabric. My husband would say that I’m trying to compete. I’m not, am I? I just want to be prepared and save a dime!  We have another cumpleaños in a month as another of  Sofía's friends turns one!
